The Association des bibliothèques publiques du Québec (Quebec Public Library Association) is the main association representing public libraries in Quebec. The ABPQ comprises more than 164 members totalling over 300 autonomous libraries serving more than 80% of the population of Quebec.
Since 1984, the Association has been representing the interests of Quebec public libraries and promoting their services to the general public. Through its presence within several jurisdictions and organizations, the Association ensures that the role of libraries in a modern society is well understood. To that end, it works with various government levels to raise awareness of the importance of library services that give citizens the means to a democratic access to knowledge and culture.
